"If a child has been able to play, to give up their whole living being to the world around, they will be able, in the serious tasks of later life, to devote themselves with confidence and purpose to the service of the world."
Rudolf Steiner

school picOur Early Childhood Programme provides a regular, secure rhythm of daily, weekly and seasonal child focused activities. Steiner early childhood education emphasises learning through imitation and imaginative play. The programmes provide many rich experiences which strengthen and fulfil our children, developing an enthusiasm for life and joy in learning. Our playgroup, Ring a Rosie, Kindergarten and Prep programmes create a clear pathway for your child's entry into school.

To enter full-time Kindergarten a child should reach five years of age before the 31st December in the year of entry.

For entry into the Prep program, a child usually turns six before the 31st December in the year of entry.

To be eligible to enter Class 1, a child should turn seven by the end of the Class 1 year.

Playgroup

A Steiner playgroup is an opportunity for parents and young children to come together with other families who are striving for a wholesome and quality space for their children. Songs, stories and the rhythm of active and quiet play are carefully planned to create a safe and joyous environment that is both enriching and nourishing. The school offers a regular weekly playgroup session, run by a member of the Early Childhood faculty. This program offers a wonderful introduction to the life of the school and provides support and education to parents in their child's early years.

Ring a Rosie

school picRing a Rosie is our 4-year old Kindergarten where children embark for the first time into a group setting without their parents, for one session per week. The gentle rhythm of the structured activities and free play is an ideal stepping-stone into our Kindergarten.

Kindergarten

Children join the Kindergarten in the year they turn five. The daily rhythm of activities again provides time for creative play. In play children learn sharing and cooperation with others in the group. Songs, verses, games and festivals connect the child to the seasonal festivals throughout the year. The tradition of telling well-loved fairy tales that deal imaginatively with the joys and sorrows of life provides children with the foundations for creativity in their play. Children learn painting, wool crafts, sewing and beeswax modelling.

Our Kindergarten's beautiful home-like environment is truly a 'children's garden' with abundant natural playthings and space for imaginative play. Children attend the Kindergarten for up to three sessions per week. A full day program is also available.

Prep

school picIn our Prep year, the guiding principle for the child's learning is still that of imitation. In a warm and loving environment, children join adults in activities such as baking, sewing, singing, painting and gardening.

Children attend Prep for four days per week all year, Monday to Thursday. The play-based curriculum, with its regular rhythms, fosters creative imaginative play, gross and fine motor coordination and spatial relationships, as well as initiative and imagination.

Festivals give the whole class community the opportunity to celebrate with wonder and gratitude the gifts of nature and the passing seasons. Our Prep provides a naturally joyful and reverent space where children can prepare for later school life.
